12th Summer Share, Week 18
A bit damp this morning and it looks like that might be the case all week. It makes harvest a little more complicated for us, but the greens love it. As predicted, tomatoes and peppers are still in abundance, the greens are looking great and the basil is still hanging in there. We also have… Continue reading 12th Summer Share, Week 18
Week 18 Predictions
Yesterday I did the last crop seeding in the fields for this season, some mustard greens for the late fall shares. They’re covered, protection against flea beetles for now and maybe for cold in the future. Meanwhile we’re still have two more weeks of summer harvests ahead of us. The late summer fruits will definitely… Continue reading Week 18 Predictions
11th Summer Share, Week 17
With the bulk of a few greens and an overload of tomatoes and peppers I’m running out of space on the wash table to set up the photo of the share. Today’s share has Romano beans, carrots, kale, summer squash, cucumbers, sweet peppers, eggplant, parsley, tomatoes and lettuce. Thursday will be similar, but without the… Continue reading 11th Summer Share, Week 17
Week 17 predictions
Despite there being 3 more weeks before the end of summer, it was really feeling a lot like the start of fall this past week. A return to cooler temperatures and even a bit of moisture is reviving the greens and the lettuce is looking really great again. We’ll also either have more chard bunches… Continue reading Week 17 predictions
10th Summer Share, Week 16
I always seem to be running a little behind in posting these photos of the week’s share, but here it is: Chard, tomatoes, basil, sweet peppers, carrots, summer squash, eggplant, cucumber and lettuce. A few notes on the items in the share are in order, as they are most weeks. The chard bunches, for the… Continue reading 10th Summer Share, Week 16
Week 16 Predictions
We’re pretty solidly into tomato season now and sweet peppers should stick around for at least another month, two if we’re really lucky. Cucumbers and summer squash should continue for a few more weeks but probably in smaller quantities. We’re back into a regular lettuce rotation that should be consistent into the middle of October.… Continue reading Week 16 Predictions
9th Summer Share, Week 15
The tomatoes are on! The share has lots of slicers and saladettes today. If you’re feeling at all like you won’t eat them fresh, cook them down a little and freeze the sauce for a treat this winter. To go with the tomatoes we have another nice bunch of basil. I’ve been eating the leaves… Continue reading 9th Summer Share, Week 15
8th Summer Share, Week 14
Left to right in the photo: celery, Siskiyou Sweet onions, summer squash, tsakoniki eggplant, cucumbers, tomatoes, sweet peppers, and chard. As predicted the lettuce is on vacation for a week but it’s looking like it might be back next week. The chard is beautiful right now so it’s providing a bit of green and bulk… Continue reading 8th Summer Share, Week 14
Week 14 Predictions
What is this crazy hot weather we’re seeing this summer? Back up into the 90’s again next week? It does match fairly well with our planned summer share actually, as we intentionally drop most of the cool weather greens in the summer and focus on getting all of our members to the point where they… Continue reading Week 14 Predictions
7th Summer Share, Week 13
Another hot week, another round of vegetable goodness from the farm. We’ve got the same number of items in the share this week as most weeks, but mostly dense fruits and roots, and no bulky greens so it looks a bit smaller. Tomatoes are really starting to produce, and the first large slicers went out… Continue reading 7th Summer Share, Week 13

Week 13 Predictions
Summer vegetables are definitely here now. Tomatoes are starting to ripen more consistently and we’re starting off with Matina, an early red saladette type. We have four other larger slicers that should be in the shares soon and the first of those, as quantities are extremely limited, will be available at the farm stand. Cherry… Continue reading Week 13 Predictions
6th Summer Share, Week 12
The predictions for the share were pretty good, but one surprise was the chard. Last week we tried to harvest and it was covered in black aphids so we just left it. This morning it was almost completely cleaned up by lady bug larva that had moved in to feast! We harvested some nice bunches… Continue reading 6th Summer Share, Week 12
Week 12 Predictions
Here’s a rare shot of the crew hand weeding carrots. Thankfully we’ve been able to avoid most hand weeding this year by being good with our timing on hoeing, but the carrots got away from us. Thankfully there was some shade cast on the carrot field to work in yesterday afternoon. It was a hot… Continue reading Week 12 Predictions
5th Summer Share, Week 11
I was surprised to see the Romano beans ready to pick this morning when I got to the farm. The chard was also big enough but due to an excessive number of aphids we switched to kale bunches at the last minute. Lettuce, summer squash and cucumbers are still looking good. Carrots are back and… Continue reading 5th Summer Share, Week 11
Week 11 Predictions
Looks like another hot one. The tomatoes are soooo close but it may be two weeks before the first ones actually turn ripe. We picked a handful of eggplant on Thursday, but there probably won’t be enough of those for a couple of weeks either. While we wait for the tomatoes and eggplant we’ll continue… Continue reading Week 11 Predictions
4th Summer Share, Week 10
The greens are not loving the heat. We actually predicted the plan is to take a break from them for the summer and concentrate on more summery crops like the ones in the share this week. Today we have beet roots from a variety called 3 Root Grex. Cucumbers continue, as does summer squash. We’re… Continue reading 4th Summer Share, Week 10
Week 10 Predictions
This heat in the forecast is actually feeling like it’s coming at a good time to help us transition into some of the hot weather crops of summer that are just about to come on in the field. We’re still waiting for the field cucumbers, tomatoes, and eggplant to all come on and I’m hoping… Continue reading Week 10 Predictions
