2nd Summer Share, Week 8

A day late on posting the photo. It was a bit of a crazy day on the farm. Tim was on vacation and we had a couple of new folks filling in for harvest in the morning. All in all we managed to get a bit chunk of the to-do list accomplished: lettuce, kale, cabbage,… Continue reading 2nd Summer Share, Week 8

Week 8 Predictions

Summer and Spring items have been getting a bit mixed together as they do many years. For week 7 we started out on Monday with the crunchy and sweet superschmelz kohlrabi and then switched on Thursday to the crunchy and sweet hakurei turnips and added in a bit of basil. For week 8 we’ll try… Continue reading Week 8 Predictions

A solid start to summer this week with: Nevada crisp lettuce, sugar snap peas, Napoli carrots, super schmeltz kohlrabi, tasty jade cucumber, fresh garlic, pink beauty radishes, Oregon giant snow peas, basic arugula and yellow collards. Thursday may see a slightly different share as the rest of the kohlrabi needs to size up and we… Continue reading 1st Summer share, week 7

Week 7 Predictions

For the first week of summer it looks like we’ll have a few holdovers from spring, namely snap peas and snow peas, and at least one new summery item, cucumbers. The likely bunching green for the week is collards, and we should have a nice head of lettuce as usual. Carrots are likely, although we’ve… Continue reading Week 7 Predictions

This is week 6 if you’re counting along. Next week is the first week of summer but before we look ahead, here’s what is in this week’s share: beautiful green cabbage, red beets with the tops (which are very similar to chard), snow peas, the last of the green onions, a small bunch of carrots… Continue reading Final spring share for 2018

So fun to have a nice harvest of carrots in this week’s share. Next week is the final week of spring and it’s looking like a good one. As predicted a few items in today’s share varied from Monday, specifically we swapped in snow peas in place of snap peas, and basil in place of… Continue reading Week 6 predictions

Spring, week 4

In today’s share: hakurei turnips, French breakfast radishes, snow peas, fennel, hearts of romaine and green crisp lettuce, yellow collards, garlic scapes. Lots of new stuff this week. The lettuce are nice dense hearts as we had a bit of damage to the outer leaves. Peas are coming on slowly with the cool weather and… Continue reading Spring, week 4

Week 4 share predictions

Garlic scapes look like they’ll be ready, as does the fennel. Peas are so close and I’m guessing we’ll be picking the first ones by Monday. The collard greens are looking good for our bunching green. We should have a few new radishes, more salad turnips, more lettuce and possibly more green onions as well.… Continue reading Week 4 share predictions

Today’s share was a little different than predicted, but with some nice new items: rainbow lacinato kale, jester lettuce, green onions, pink beauty radishes, first pinch of genovese basil, green garlic, hakurei turnips, basic arugula. I had predicted romaine but we had a bit of insect damage compounded by burning from a boron feeding we… Continue reading Week 3 of spring shares

Today’s share: abundant bloomsdale spinach, pink beauty radishes, Nash’s green kale, 5 color silverbeet (aka chard), green garlic, jester lettuce, basic arugula. Lots of great greens again this week and a bit of radish and garlic too. Even the radish greens are good eating, a bit sharp for some but excellent cooked down.
