A little bit of summer’s flavor has entered the share this week in the form of a small amount of basil.  It needed to be pinched to encourage more branching so I threw the pinchings in the share.  Also new this week are snow peas, garlic scapes, napa cabbage, swiss chard, and a few new… Continue reading 6/17/13

Garlic scapes (aka whistles or whips)… Continue reading CSA 6/13/13

Today was a lovely day to spend harvesting for CSA – a cool clouded morning opened up into a nice breezy sunny 70 degree-ish day.  There are still quite a few large plantings to get in at the farm, namely winter squash, celeriac, and the outdoor peppers & eggplants.  Unfortunately most of my winter squash… Continue reading 6/10/13

CSA 6/3/13

Welcome to the 2013 season!  You will notice that there is an absence of lettuce this share.  The heads just weren’t quite ready.  By next week we should have your salad ready.  I could see making a nice stir fry with this share using the garlic, peas, bok choi, maybe the mustard and turnip greens… Continue reading CSA 6/3/13

We’re on TV!

KATU news came and filmed at the farm last week for their story on the county’s proposed changes in the zoning code that would basically legalize a lot of the small scale urban food growing, selling, and distribution that is already happening in the Portland area.  Right now, “agriculture” is not an allowed use of… Continue reading We’re on TV!

6/30 share

Hi all! The farm is transitioning into summer mode.  Irrigation is in full swing, despite the occasional sprinkle we’ve received.  We’ve moved our start production area out of the too-hot greenhouse.  Summer crops are growing by leaps and bounds.  This week saw a few zucchinis begin to ripen up, so you’ll probably see them in… Continue reading 6/30 share
