In the plan for this week is arugula, chard, frisée, spinach, beets, celeriac, winter radishes and salad turnips. I suspect that we’ll still have a few tomatoes and peppers and that we may not have enough of some of the planned for crops, specifically arugula, winter radishes and salad turnips are all a bit unknown before we start pulling them on Thursday. We put chard in the share last Thursday instead of the collards so we’ll have to see if it has grown back enough for this Thursday. We’ll almost certainly have collards for the B schedule third share.
The dry weather has meant irrigation work long after we usually have shut off the water for the year. It’s also made it easier to clean up some of the crops that have finished up recently and to get cover crop and over wintered plantings in. It’s a bit of a late planting but I seeded favas on Monday and with some luck those greens will show up in the spring shares. In some ways I’m hoping we’ll have a cold and wet enough winter that they’ll struggle, but we could use the cold/wet combination for snow pack/drought remediation, not to mention reducing pest pressure and increasing the flavor on some of the winter crops.
