Final summer share and final Monday harvest of the year: beets with greens, lettuce, shallot, carrots, tomatoes, sweet peppers and collards. The shallot is a different species from the French Grey shallots we gave out earlier in the season, this one is more closely related to onions. Tomatoes are slowing way down with the cooler weather and shorter days and this is the time of year where the sweet peppers really start to ripen. Thursday will hopefully see chard instead of the collard greens, as they got collard greens instead of chard last week. The last of the cucumbers and summer squash are on the farm stand this week and we still have some romano beans there too.
In the field I seeded a bit of mâche, possibly a little late. There was an earlier seeding that is weedy so I’m hoping between those two we’ll have some late into the winter. We also made a dent in the newly germinated winter weeds yesterday as we continue to work our way across the field.
If you signed up for a fall share expect an email a little later this week with details. You can also sign up for a kombucha share this fall from our great neighbors Golden Age Kombucha on their website. We’ll continue to have the farm stand on Thursdays through the fall and you can often find cans of their delicious kombucha flavors there for sale too.
