Looks like I forgot to give a prediction for the tenth share last Thursday, apologies for that. Harvests have been taking up a lot of our hours in the field right now, so many tomatoes and beans this year! Sweet peppers are starting to come on nicely too. All of the onions and shallots are out and clean now so we’ll be putting those in the shares over the next few weeks. Today’s share has Cipolla Di Rovato onions, some of my favorites for flavor, and also a good storage onion if you don’t use them right away. Also in the share are summer crisp lettuce, more yellow romano beans, various sweet peppers, cucumbers, summer squash (not pictured), carrots, various tomatoes, and some Winter kale. On the farm stand as usual we also had eggplant and some extra lettuce, cucumbers, beans, basil and sauce tomatoes. In the you-pick area we have lots of cherry tomatoes, hot peppers, ground cherries, tomatillos, culinary herbs, and even raspberries!
Thursday’s share will probably look similar but it will be interesting to see how the forecasted rain impacts things. I think we’re mostly ready for the rain with most of the dry beans and all of the storage onions out of the field. I would have liked to have gotten to more of the hoeing but that’s never completely done. The rain does slow things down, both our work and how quickly everything ripens.
I sent out an email to our mailing list last night saying that we still had lots of fall and winter shares available, which is unusual this time of year. Response was amazing! By this morning nearly all of those were spoken for, and at this point we probably have a waiting list for fall, and we’re nearly full for winter. It’s going to take me a few days to get it all sorted out but it’s wonderful to see all of the support for what we do! If you haven’t signed up yet, do it now to at least get on the waiting list. I suspect a few of the sign ups are duplicates and we often have spaces open up at the last minute.
