Lettuce, cucumbers, summer squash, shallots, basil, tomatoes, and celery. Again, two heads of lettuce as it was ready and we’re needing to clear out some space for winter plantings in the next week. Time to make lots of salad with all of that lettuce, cucumber and tomato. The basil and shallots are nice additions to a dressing, or even the celery. Romano beans are now just on the farm stand, and we also still had some of the last small potatoes there too.
In the field today we pulled all of the yellow and red onions to cure for storage and to open up space for planting. We seeded more salad turnips for the fall, and a bit of spinach, which is always a gamble with warm soil not being fantastic for germination but this is looking like the coolest weather we’ll get for a while and we can’t wait too long or it won’t have time to grow. The fall and winter leeks got weeded and hilled today, too. We might have some baby leeks in the shares soon, extras that were planted in a spot that we also need to plant other crops in for the winter so those will need to come out even though they’re still quite small.
