Predictions for Summer Share #8

Lettuce, cucumbers, summer squash and tomatoes are pretty certain. We’re going to try to get some basil into the shares this week and maybe that celery I thought we were going to harvest last week. There’s a small possibility that sweet peppers might start this week, they’re very close! We’ll also have more of the French Grey shallots. On the farm stand we should have eggplant, potatoes and whatever romano beans are remaining. In the you pick area the cherry tomatoes and padron peppers are very much on, and I saw ripe ground cherries too. We have a bit of dill and lot of shiso in the herb section.

We got lucky with the air quality last week on the days we worked. Thursday was very hot and the air wasn’t great, but after two days of terrible air it was nice to be outside even with a bit of lingering wildfire smoke in the air. Despite the heat we planted one of the last rounds of lettuce for the year. We continued to tie up tomatoes and cucumbers, and also got the peppers tied up just before the fruit gets heavy enough to topple them. Planting for fall and winter will continue this week, as will keeping the weeds out of the recent plantings.
