Speckled lettuce, red onion, summer squash, yellow romano beans, three types of cucumber, and celery. Smaller heads of lettuce today and Thursday may get a different variety depending on what happens with this heat wave. Thursday will also get sweet onions since they got red onions last week. Summer squash will probably be a mix of types for a while now. Today there was a choice of patty pan, Genovese zucchini or Mutabile zucchini. The three cucumbers, which should all be regulars for the next few weeks are Marketmore, a standard green slicer, Lemon, a round, sweet cucumber with very thin skin, and Salt and Pepper, which is kind of half way between the other two, more of a slicer shape, but sweeter and thinner skinned. The yellow romano beans are a new variety for us so I’m not sure what to expect in terms of production, but so far they seem to be doing well and they taste great! The celery is just the first little stalks from cleaning up the plants. We’ll have more in the coming week, and it looks like we may get good sized stalks this year for the shares.
In the field today we planted more cilantro and dill in the you pick area which should be ready for cutting in a few weeks. We also got collard greens in the ground for winter harvests. We continue to chip away at the weeds and trellising the tomatoes and cucumbers which are starting to get very big. I also brought down the mower for the field edges today for the first time in a few weeks. Things are looking a little cleaner around the edges which is nice.
