It looks like warm weather is returning after that cool, gray day we had Thursday. The summer squash and cucumbers seemed to just hit a peak of sorts and the return of hot weather will help them produce more. The bush beans are basically done, but it looks like we’ll probably have romano beans next week . Lettuce will continue with smaller heads from the next plantings. We’ll have red onions for Monday and sweet onions for Thursday, and maybe a bit of celery trimmings for flavoring your summer salads. Tomatoes and peppers are very, very close but probably not in next week’s shares. I did see a ripe cherry tomato so those will be on the you pick list soon.
Yesterday was a nice break from the heat and we were able to keep working on tying up cucumbers and tomatoes, clearing beds for upcoming plantings, and we even got more carrots seeded. Next week is the start of some huge planting pushes for the fall and winter crops and it’s supposed to be very hot so keeping up with the irrigation is going to be a challenge. Fortunately the fields are in good shape and the weed pressure is at a relatively low point so that will all help.
We still have summer shares available for Mondays and Thursdays and any sign ups now will be prorated. If you know anyone who might want a share have them check it out and sign up. Fall and winter shares spots are still available too.
