Thursday we had an extra large harvest of the yellow Romano beans and cucumbers, and the first harvest of sweet onions. We’ll definitely have sweet onions for Monday this coming week, and likely red onions again in Thursday’s share. Lettuce will continue, as will cucumbers and summer squash, and I’m hoping we’ll have yellow beans, but those might have a lull after such a big harvest last week. We’ll probably harvest the next round of potatoes, a little earlier than planned, but they’re looking ready. On the farm stand I’m hoping we might get a little chard and basil, in addition to extra lettuce, and maybe extras on cucumbers and summer squash too. In the you pick area the first of the “hot” peppers are ready for harvest and I’ve even seen a few ripe cherry tomatoes so those should be ready next week.
Thursday was a good planting day and we got lots of lettuce, beets and kohlrabi planted for the fall. We got lucky that the heat wave was Tuesday and Wednesday and that Thursday was much cooler. This coming week is another big planting one with the first radicchios scheduled to go in the ground, as well as more winter beets, lettuce, and direct seedings of winter radishes, turnips and carrots. The greenhouse has been pretty full but it’s starting to empty out again as we get all of these seedlings into the ground.
