Predictions for First Spring Share

Here’s my best guess at what we’ll be harvesting on Thursday: baby lettuce heads, sorrel, red mustard greens, small salad turnips with greens, and possibly baby leeks? We’ve been back and forth with the warm sunny and cooler overcast days. The crops aren’t quite as big as they’d ideally be, but that’s pretty much always the case this time of year. Arugula is another possibility but it was looking a little small so I might give it another week. That’s a possibility with the turnips too, but I think we might have enough of those to do a few baby ones in the shares and still have good sized ones to come in future weeks.

I’ve been busy trying to figure out the best set up for our new seedling house. My initial plan to put one big bench down the center and have two smaller shelves on the sides wasn’t working great so I’m building wider shelves for the sides and end and I think that’ll be good. I always forget how much work it is to set up and learn a new tool, especially a big one like a greenhouse! I’m also in the process of setting up all of the irrigation for the season and just found out that our irrigation supplier is no longer carrying one of the mini sprinkler parts we’ve been using (and need repair parts for). I’m scrounging whatever old pieces and parts I can while I figure out next steps there. Never a dull moment on the farm.

At this point I think we have one or two remaining spring shares for the B week, and 11 shares remaining for summer. Sign up soon if you want a spring share, B schedule starts next week!
