CSA share 8/4/11

Hey there —

I love it when gardens give surprises. For about 2 weeks I’ve noticed the eggplant plants looking (finally) happy and healthy and beginning to flower. So I was taken aback a little today when I bumped into an almost fully mature eggplant on the vine! The heat really does wonders for plant growth.

In other news, here’s the this week’s share:
– 1 “gonzalez” cabbage
– 1 bunch of beets with greens
– 1 bunch of “danvers” carrots
– 1 bunch of cilantro
– 1 bunch of chives
– 1 bunch of “lacinato” kale
– 1 head of “pirat” lettuce
– ~0.4 lbs of cut mixed lettuce greens
– ~0.1 lbs of basil
– 3-5 zucchini (optional extra big guys, too)
– 3-5 cucumbers
– 1 flower bunch

Have you made sauerkraut? It’s fun and easy — here’s some directions:
