Number 7 will mark the half way point in the summer season! Cucumbers and summer squash are solidly on at this point, tomatoes are just getting started, I think the romano beans are going to taper a bit, but at the very least we’ll have them on the farm stand. Lettuce is still going strong but may suffer a little with all of these little heat waves we seem to be having this summer. Eggplant is getting started but will only ever be on the farm stand so if you want some either get to the farm stand early, or let me know in advance to set some aside for you. We’ll also try to have a bit of basil, chard and extra lettuce every week. In the shares next week we should have lettuce, summer squash, cucumbers, tomatoes, carrots, and maybe some more celery. Sweet peppers are very close but I’m not sure they’ll be ready yet next week. The padron peppers and cherry tomatoes are ready in the you-pick area, which is totally free to all CSA members.
Today was another big planting day and we got the entire first round of radicchio planted, as well as all of the winter radishes and turnips, and the first of the fall turnips! Somehow we’re also finding time to do more weeding at the same time, and we’re even keeping the cucumbers trained to the trellises. Let’s hope this trend continues even with all of the new plantings to take care of!
