Second Summer Share

Lettuce, carrots, green beans, green onions, and collard greens. Summer squash was on the farm stand again with not quite enough to go in the shares. We also had the last of the peas and fava beans on the farm stand. There are some favas held over that will be on the farm stand again on Thursday but peas are finished. If it warms up we should have enough summer squash for the shares but with the cool temps it’s been slow to size up. Fingers crossed that more beans will size up by Thursday too. Today’s share had two heads of lettuce, which matches last Thursday’s share which also had an extra head of lettuce. Lettuce is one of the few crops that’s in abundance at the moment and that rain this past weekend was good for it.

I realized this morning that I never posted the share prediction at the end of last week so apologies for that. It was a busy, and very productive day last Thursday. We got lots of compost spread, something that hasn’t happened in too long, in addition to planting the next round of beets and tying up the trellised crops like tomatoes and cucumbers. Today we took down the pea trellis and immediately moved it to the late cucumber planting, just in time to get those plants tied up as they start to vine out. The early planting of cucumbers is also very, very close to its first harvests, maybe we’ll even have a few on Thursday. The farm is looking good right now in the field. A few crops of the moment are a bit behind, but everything is looking good for the late summer and for the fall plantings.

We still have a few summer shares left so if you want to sign up for one we’ll pro-rate the price. Fall and winter seasons also have space so sign up for those too!
