Start of Summer!

Today is the first day of summer and tomorrow, Monday, is our first summer share of the season. It’ll probably be a small(ish) one as we wait for some of the summer crops to catch up after some cold nights we had back in May and early June when the main crops for summer we first planted. I expect we’ll have lettuce, kohlrabi, and chard. Favas or fava tips, peas, summer squash are all possible but I’m not sure if we’ll have enough for everyone so they may have to go on the farm stand. Other outside possibilities are carrots, potatoes, green onions and even the first tips from our basil planting.

Last week was a big week in the field getting our trellising for tomatoes and cucumbers all started, tons of hoeing to kill weeds in that hot weather, planting more rounds of lettuce, and even some clean up from spring crops that are finished to make space for the fall crops that will be planted soon. Our greenhouse germination chamber is filling up again with seed trays for the big fall plantings and I finally got the shade cloth on the greenhouse to keep it a little cooler in there on the upcoming hot, sunny summer afternoons.

Even with our summer season starting tomorrow we still have a few shares available for either Monday or Thursday pick-ups. If you haven’t signed up yet please do that now on our website. Put the word out too, we’d love to get all of the produce out there to folks who can use it!
