Radicchio, kohlrabi, escarole, celeriac, black radish, collards and beets with greens. We’re solidly into the cold weather crops now. Although it’s been warm enough that there were still sweet peppers and salad turnips on the farm stand. The beets are a variety that is especially tolerant of cold and is a cross between three other varieties so there’s a lot of color and shape variation, and an earthier flavor than the summer beets that we grow. We left some greens on the celeriac and they can be used for cooking to add more celery flavor to whatever dish.
All of the veggies, especially the roots, keep really well this time of year. You can even just hack hunks off of the veggies like giant kohlrabi and save the rest for later. I’ve kept chunks of giant kohlrabi in the fridge for months, just using small amounts at a time.
A few sprinkles in the morning and some nice sun in the afternoon today. We had time to do a little mowing, take down some trellis, and even plant some garlic before it got dark!
Next week is Thanksgiving so we skip a week in the schedule. B schedule will be back the week after Thanksgiving and A schedule the week after that. Our final week of B is the third week of December and then we’re off until the new year. Hope you all have a great Thanksgiving break!
