Remember last week? That’s the last time I remembered to take a photo at the farm, and today is when I’m remembering to post it! After a few great weeks of sun and warmth, last Thursday turned so wet we took the day off from field work. That rain was definitely a good thing, giving the cover crop a nice watering. It’s been super nice to see so much cover crop in the ground and although I’m missing spring harvests I think the ground appreciates us growing something for it and not for harvest for a change.
Today started very wet, but we ended up getting enough breaks in the rain to actually make some positive progress in the field. During the last of the morning drizzle we were able to get in some stopgap cultivation, basically loosening up the surface and setting back the weeds until we can get a drier run at them. Then it dried out enough to open up a good furrow for planting the leeks and we got them all planted just before the skies opened up again. One more dry window at the end of the day allowed me a little window to put some salad turnip seeds in the ground.
No photos of the field today, but maybe I’ll remember on Thursday. Now it’s into the greenhouse to start a bunch of summer crop seeds!
Our Summer CSA season starts at the end of June and we still have about 11 shares available. Everyone seems to be signing up for Thursday, which is understandable, but if you can sign up for Monday to help even things out that would be great! Plenty of Fall shares are still open, but if you want one for winter those are more limited and are going quickly so don’t wait too long.
