Cover Crops

Taking the spring off from harvests has definitely freed up space and time to plant more cover crops than we have in a long time. It’s not planted with the timing I’d like, but better late than never and the triticale and pea mix we’re experimenting with is coming up nicely. Thursday we were able to finish seeding the last of the beds that are resting this season and will get a spring cover crop. We’re also making extra passes on the beds to be planted in the next couple of weeks, with beets, onions, leeks, carrots, celery and celeriac all going in the ground soon. We also knocked back the weeds on the first plantings of carrots, parsley, chard, favas and the overwintered shallots.

CSA sign-ups continue to come in and we’re down to only 13 summer shares left. The summer season starts at the end of June so there’s still plenty of time to sign up, but don’t wait too long or we might sell out. We have more fall shares available, but winter is even more limited this coming year so only 5 more of those still available.
