Third Summer Share

Parsley, cucumber, green beans, lettuce, collards, summer squash, gold beets with tops. A big bunch of parsley which reminds me of my farmer friend who said it was big cooking revelation for them when they started thinking of parsley as not just an herb, but as a green (think tabbuleh, or any number of other salads/sauces/dishes..) Cucumbers are finally here and we’re starting it off with a classic slicer. The green beans share will probably be a bit smaller Thursday, which will even things out a bit as Monday last week was a bit smaller. We cleared out very weedy lettuce planting today on pictured is a bit of summer crips from that section. We also had romaine as an option and that’ll likely be what is in Thursday’s share this week. The last collards of early season are in this week’s share, we’ll have more in the fall. Gold beets make their first appearance with a couple of nice fat ones. The beets are standing in for the planned for carrots which when we went to dig them had just gotten totally outgrown by the weeds and are basically a write off. We do have more coming, and hopefully those will be here in a few weeks.

It was a big planting day on the farm and we had a little extra help to get things done which was nice. Kale, fennel, lettuce, cilantro and chard all got planted; tomatoes got tied up, as did cucumbers; and we even knocked back some weeds. Even the weather cooperated with a perfect mild day for planting!
