3rd Share Predictions

Here’s what’s planned for next week and I think it’ll probably be more or less what’s actually in the shares: beans, carrots, cucumbers, lettuce, parsley, summer squash, and collards. The carrots got a bit overwhelmed with weeds so it’s tough to tell how big they’ll be and how many there actually are until we dig them – after an amazing winter of carrots we’ve definitely been struggling with them this spring and early summer. The cucumbers are just starting and the heat should help ripen enough but it’s always tricky to tell. The green beans were great this past week and we should have more this coming week before transitioning to romano beans in a few weeks. The fava season seems a bit short this year, maybe because of the heat, but also because of the cold winter which killed all of the overwintering ones. We should also have some more yellow beans and haricot vert on the farm stand next week, but that’ll probably be the last of those, too.

The heat this week seemed to be good for most of the crops, and next week’s forecast looks even better. After a lull in planting we’re back to it this for the next month, getting all of the late summer, fall and winter crops into the ground. That, along with continuing to train the summer trellised crops like cucumbers and tomatoes, and staying on top of the weeds should keep us very busy!
