We’re on spring break right now but up to this point that’s really just meant a break from harvesting. The weather has actually been very conducive to getting beds prepared for planting in the field and our new greenhouse space is starting to fill up with spring and summer crops. Some of those spring crops have already made it back out of the greenhouse and into the ground: peas, lettuce, fennel, chard, kohlrabi, mustards, green onions and more. We’ve also had good luck germinating the first seeds directly in the ground including arugula, salad turnips and more.
Spring CSA sign ups continue to come in and we have about 14 shares up for grabs at this point, 4 for the A schedule starting April 30 and 10 for the B schedule starting the following Thursday. Thanks to everyone who has signed up already and keep those sign ups coming! The spring CSA season is a short one this year, a perfect little CSA sampler before summer starts.
It looks like we’ll have a nice planting window on Friday to get more seedlings in the ground and then I (Josh) am headed out of town for a real spring break while Sara and Sam keep the weeds at bay and the greenhouse watered. I’ll still be keeping an eye on sign ups and maybe even posting here, but invoices for sign-ups may not get sent out until I’m back the week before Spring shares start. If you’ve already signed up you should have received an invoice by now and you’ll get another email with details on picking up your first spring shares the week before that first harvest.
