The sixth and final winter share will be this Thursday and here’s my best guess at what we’ll have in the share: Yellow and orange carrots, root parsley, salsify, beets, leeks and fava greens. On the farm stand we should have more collard and kale raab and there’s a small chance if there’s enough that it will make it into the shares. Other possible items on the farm stand and outside chance for the shares are cardoon and chard.
We had a beautiful day on in the field yesterday after so much rain last week! Conditions were actually quite good (for this time of year) for getting beds prepared and that’s good because we have a ton of plants and seeds that are needing to get into the ground. With a little luck we’ll get more dry weather tomorrow and have a chance to do a bunch of planting.
Sunday we were at the PNWCSA Coalition’s Share Fair and had a great time talking to potential CSA members, fellow CSA farms and friends. I’ve personally been working on CSA farms for 29 years now and 26 of those in the Portland area. It’s amazing to see how much things have changed for the better in those years, how much more support and awareness there is for the direct connection and commitment to small farms and how many more farms that has made possible. It’s a really wonderful community to be a part of!
