Predictions for Fall Share #6

Kale, red mustard, parsnips, rutabaga, frisée or escarole and radicchio. In today’s B week share we had escarole instead of the frisée and we’ll try to reverse that for the final fall A and B week shares.

Looking at the radicchio field right now I expect we’ll have two heads of radicchio in the shares, enough to get you through our winter break until we’re back in January for the winter season. Fortunately radicchio keeps really well in the refrigerator, easily two or more weeks if you don’t get to it right away.

Today was the first really wet harvest we’ve had this fall which is kind of amazing. It was a little muddy but not really that bad in full rain gear. Due to the wet field conditions we only got to a little clean up of trellises and mulching of perennials with leaves. Slow progress, matching the feel of the season right now. I’m looking forward to solstice in a couple of weeks when the days start to lengthen and things start to speed up again ever so gradually.
