Once again I forgot to take a photo of the share while I was at the farm, but here’s one of the share I brought home with everything except for a winter squash. Leeks, arugula, sweet peppers, spinach, tomatoes, red lettuce, salad turnips with greens, beets and collard greens. It’s a big share by our standards. A few notes on the veggies are in order. The leeks have rust on the tops which can easily be cut away and doesn’t affect the flavor. The lettuce may be the last we see this year as it’s rapidly being taken down by a combination of the warmer than usual fall, slugs and other pests. The winter squash wasn’t super abundant so just one squash per share and you’ll see either butternut, kabocha, Black Futsu (related to butternut, but looks like a bumpy mini pumpkin), or delicata. On the farm stand we still had eggplant and a few tomatoes, and fennel and celery were also there and should be for a while longer.
Part of the reason I forgot to take the photo was because this was a bigger harvest than planned for so we were scrambling a bit to get it packed. I also really wanted to get some plants in the ground before it starts raining so I was racing to get green onions planted for next spring, and they’re all in there now! Still on the planting list is shallots, garlic for green garlic, and favas. Fingers crossed it stops raining next week for long enough that I can plug those in too.
