Chard, carrots, sweet peppers, summer squash, salad turnips with greens, two types of shallot, tomatoes, romaine lettuce and celery. We’ve been having a bit of trouble with lettuce bolting this year, especially after each bout of heat, and it seems that’s continuing this fall with our warmer than usual days this Septemeber. That heat definitely ripened a lot of peppers and tomatoes though. There are two types of shallot in the share, the last of the little true shallots, also called French Grey Shallots, and the much larger, more onion like Ed’s Red. The true shallots aren’t great keepers but the Red shallots are.
Fall seems to be off to a good start. We got more dry beans and winter squash out of the field today, and the little bit of polenta corn the crows left us. All of that was in anticipation of the rain which is forecasted to arrive next week. We’ll have to see how that rain and the accompanying cooler temperatures affect harvests next week, likely we’ll have fewer tomatoes, summer squash but maybe more of other things.
We still have four more spots available in the B schedule of fall if you’re interested in joining us. Those start next Thursday so get you order in soon if so. Our farm partners are offering mushroom shares, egg shares and kombucha shares this fall, all delicious! Thanks to everyone who helps make this little farm go!
