Start of Fall

Today is fall equinox and Thursday will be our first fall CSA share for 2025. Here’s my best guess at what we’ll have: lettuce, chard, celery, onions, carrots, sweet peppers. There might be some daikon or salad turnips if they’ve sized up enough. Tomatoes will probably hang on for another week or two, and summer squash may still be on the farm stand for another week. We’re also looking at having arugula in the next week or two.

This weekend I took down our old greenhouse to make way for a new greenhouse. I put this one up a little more than 5 years ago when we moved our propagation from Matt’s back yard to mine. The plastic was pretty beat up from the squirrels chewing on the corners and near the end of its rated life. The base which was just untreated wood sitting directly on the soil was rotted out in spots as expected, but mostly it’s salvageable and will go to a new home. It’s getting replaced for aesthetic reasons and the new one will actually be a bit smaller but all glass! I suspect it won’t actually be more functional but we’ll see.

We still have a handful of fall shares available on the B schedule which starts October 2. Sign up is on the website.
