Chard, carrots, summer square, lettuce, cucumber and baby leeks. On the farm stand we had the first of the romano beans, extra cucumbers and green crisp lettuce, and a few extra carrots. I think that we’ll have the same share on Thursday, but this week has been really hard to predict with the back and forth weather of the past few days, not to mention the past few months.
On that weather note, we got a nice amount of rain this morning, enough to significantly reduce the irrigation load today, and make some of the new plantings very happy. The flip side of rain is that it always makes the weeds happy too, so we’ll have a little extra work to do in that department over then next week or two. We’ve mostly been staying on top of the weeds but they’re definitely sneaking into a few beds so they’re still a concern.
It looks like it’s going to be moderately hot for the coming week and that should help the summer crops continue to set and ripen fruit. We have a lot of planting to do with all of the radicchio, fall lettuce, and various other fall and winter crops needing to get into the ground soon. They’ll appreciate it not being too crazy hot too.
