Predictions for Summer Share #2

Summer got off to a good start with a big share full of the last of the spring crops. It will be a slightly smaller share this coming week as we enter the typical lull between the cool weather loving spring veggies and the heat loving summer veggies. We should have lettuce, potatoes, beets, green onions and more carrots. The first basil tips are possible, and we were hoping for the first green beans but those look a bit behind schedule. On the farm stand there will be kale and possibly more favas. We were hoping for one more round of chard before the typical summer lull, but the aphids found it early this year and while the ladybugs are going after them and doing their job well I don’t think they’ll have the leaves cleaned up before next week. In the you pick area the raspberries are still going, but they’ll be done soon. Chamomile is also in full flower!

Yesterday in the field we planted more beets and even got a little bit of hoeing and hand weeding done. Sara was able to take down the pea trellis and next week we’ll move that all into the cucumbers to give them something to climb on. Both the squash and cucumbers looked like they were really starting to grow today and the predicted heat this weekend should only help!
