Predictions for 6th Spring Share

We’ve entered the final two weeks of spring and we’ve been very busy in the field. Last week’s B week share had chard, fennel, and snap peas, as well as lettuce, green onions and the last of the radishes and snow peas. For this week’s share expect chard, fennel, snap peas, lettuce, green onions, and likely we’ll also have more salad turnips as well as the first beets of the year and maybe some kohlrabi. In the pick-your-own area the raspberry patch is starting to ripen so you might swing by there for a little grazing snack when you pick up your share.

In the field we’ve been very busy. Trellises are going up quickly for beans and tomatoes that are wanting to climb. There’s been extra irrigation pressure from the hot weather. All of that heat is also a good time to hoe out weeds as they shrivel up more quickly when it’s this warm and sunny.

Summer CSA shares will start the week of June 23. If you signed up for a share expect an email next week with all of the details on picking up your first summer shares, as well as links to the other folks offering CSA items like mushrooms, kombucha, flowers (and I’m hoping eggs!)
