I’m a bit late posting this and last week’s share was pretty close to the A week share two weeks ago, except there were collards instead of kale and green onions instead of the green garlic, and romaine lettuce instead of green crisp. This week we should continue with the collards, green onions and romaine, and might add in a bit of kale as well. The really exciting new item should be Oregon Giant peas, a really fat and sweet snow pea. We should also have more radishes, turnips and maybe even more choi. Fennel and beets were in the original plans but they both look like they might need another week to size up.
We got a lot of planting and hoeing done today which was great! More cucumbers, lettuce, collards went in the main field, basil got planted in the hoop house, and in the you-pick area we planted cucamelons, stevia, ground cherries and tomatillos, all for this summer. As far as hoeing, we were able to clean up a lot of newer plantings in the you-pick, the beans squash and cucumbers in the main field, as well as lettuce, beets, chard, carrots and probably a few other things I’m forgetting, like tomatoes and peppers. Weeds are starting to get a little out of control in a few spots, like the carrots and beets, but I’m hoping we’ll get a little assist from the weather and if it warms up the crops may be able to outgrow the smaller weeds now that we’ve knocked back the really big ones.
I still need to confirm a few of the summer shares, but it looks like we may be full for summer at this point and starting a waiting list for any sign ups that come in now. Fall and winter seasons both still have shares available. I’ll try to put a note on the website about all of that soon.
