Predictions for 4th Spring Share

Yesterday’s 3rd spring share for the B week is a predictor of the 4th share for the A week, with the first of the salad turnips and kale. We should also have more lettuce and the last of the first round of radishes, as well as red mustard greens, more choi, and green garlic for week A, with scallions for week B.

The sunny weather this week was pretty nice for planting, but it also kept us on our toes as irrigating all those new plantings gets to be a bigger job. A clear sign that the soil is warming up finally is the germination of summer weeds and that also means more work hoeing to try to keep ahead of them. Timing is critical to controlling weeds and getting them when they first germinate saves a lot of time in the long run, but it’s hard to keep up with when there’s also a ton of planting and harvesting happening!

I spent a little extra time on the farm this morning getting the first  of the green beans and all of the dry beans planted and watered in, as well as hoeing the onions and shallots. That was followed with a lovely and simple 5e5 sandwich from our good friends down the street Sorbu and a glass of kombucha from our neighbor Golden Age Kombucha. All of that made me really happy to be a part of the Cully neighborhood!
