Spring seems to be flying by and we’re at week 3 already (which is really week 5 since we’re on an every other week schedule). Last week’s B share got the first of the radishes and choi, which as it’s prone to do was starting to bolt. Week 3 will see more radishes and choi, mustards, green garlic for the first time in many years, and the first lettuce harvest this year. Again it looks like the B week will have a slightly different mix but more on that later.
The next few weeks are our biggest planting push of the year, which includes setting up irrigation and our biggest cultivation needs to keep those newly planted crops weed free. So far we’ve gotten in all of the onions, some of the leeks (which won’t be harvested until fall and winter), and more turnips, radishes and lettuces (all for this spring harvests). We’re hoping for some more warm weather as the tomatoes, peppers, corn, beans and squash will all be ready to go out very soon!
If you’re interested in learning more about the farm and getting hands on we’re out there on most Mondays and every Thursday and there’s now a page with information on volunteer and other work opportunities on the website.
As of now we’re down to just two more summer shares available before we start a waiting list. We still have a good number available for fall and a handful for next winter.
