Winter Share #6

Salsify, carrots, leeks, kale and collard raab, mache and chard. The mache is starting to bolt but it’s still super tasty. It will require a bit of extra work as usual to clean up the older yellowing leaves and get the remaining soil out of the nooks and crannies, but it’s worth it. Similarly, the salsify requires a bit of extra work scraping the skin before cooking, but also a nice, somewhat unusual seasonal treat.

Today we were back to cold, windy and damp; winter like conditions for the final winter share and first official day of spring! Our spring season will start with the A schedule in two weeks and the B schedule in three weeks. If you’ve already signed up look for an email in your inbox in the next week or two with details on picking up your first shares. I’m still processing the orders that came in this week and it looks like we have just a handful of B schedule shares remaining to sell.

I’ll try to put up some predictions of the first spring share next week when we’re out in the field trying to use any dry weather to get more plants in the ground. Today we were able to squeeze in a little planting of lettuce in the hoop house between harvest and CSA pick-up. There are lots of plants in the greenhouse right now ready to go out to the field as soon as beds are ready!
