Predictions for Fall Share #3

Taking a look through the fields today there’s a lot that’s ready, but a lot of that we need to save for future weeks so here’s the mix I think we’ll be harvesting next week: Collards, arugula, beets, a chicory of one sort or another, maybe celeriac. Other possibilities include a few more shallots, green mustard (which is for later but looks great right now), winter radishes, and more salad turnips. The salad turnips might be for the farm stand. I think we’ll have some lettuce for the farm stand if the slugs leave us any. There’s a possibility of tomatoes either in the shares or on the farm stand depending on what temperatures do, same with sweet peppers.

The weather hasn’t been hot, but it’s been relatively warm and dry this fall and today we had what might have been one of our biggest tomato harvests of the year so far. Weird! It did finally rain a bit and it looks like we should get some more this weekend or next week, which would be good. The cover crop I seeded on Monday is already starting to germinate so that’s good too. Today was once again mostly harvest, but we did tackle some weeds and a bit of field clean up. The irrigation is coming out of the field now that it’s raining again and the plants don’t need extra water. Everything is slowing down and that’s kind of nice right now.
