Predictions for Fall Share #1

If you signed up for a fall share you should have received an email earlier today with confirmation of your pick up schedule and all of the details on picking up your first share. Here’s my best guess at what we’ll have in that first share: lettuce, chard, onions and shallots, parsley and salad turnips. There’s a small chance that we might have spinach and winter squash, but more likely those will be on the farm stand as I’m not sure there’s enough to put into all of the shares. Sweet peppers and tomatoes are others that may or may not make it into the shares, those are dependent on us getting a little more sun and warmth between now and next Thursday!

In the field we’ve been focusing on knocking back the prolific summer weeds and making good progress. As shorter days and consistent fall rains approach we’re also starting to prepare beds that aren’t planted in fall and winter harvest crops to get seeded to winter cover crop to hold, protect and build the soil for next year’s plantings.

A last note on this final summer post for 2024 – huge thank you to all of our summer CSA members for supporting what we do! We got a lot of positive feedback from members at the last summer pick-up last night and it’s one of the things that really keeps the farm going. If you were a summer CSA member and you made farm stand purchases over the standard $13 farm stand credit that came with all shares expect an invoice with the suggested total. If you don’t receive one it probably means you didn’t go over $13 for the season so nothing is due.
