The penultimate share of the summer season! Likely there will be red leaf lettuce, tomatoes, sweet pepper, red shallots, carrots and chard. Summer squash and cucumbers are on their way out but we should still have them at least on the farm stand, along with a bit of eggplant and maybe basil and a few other things.
It was a hot one yesterday! We still got a lot of good work done, and thankfully enough of it was in the shade that it wasn’t too bad. Weather like that is definitely energy sapping though so once again I forgot to take a photo of the field at the end of the day. Instead you get a photo of some recent pizzas I made with farm veggies, mushrooms from Cloud Cap, and with some of our popcorn from last year incorporated into the dough (my secret pizza dough ingredient!) A friend passed along a little outdoor wood fired oven earlier this summer and it’s been a great way for me to roast the CSA veggies (and mushrooms) without getting my kitchen too hot, and to make them delicious for topping pizzas, pastas, rice, or just on their own. Summer squash, eggplant, tomatoes, onions, leeks and even the chard and kale are great sliced and prepared this way with just a bit of olive oil and some salt. It works in a regular oven, too, but it’s fun to have an excuse to cook outside.
The fall season is coming up soon and we still have a handful of shares available. Email with details on the season will be going out in the next two weeks to folks who have a share. Please sign up soon and let your friends know so you get that email promptly. The farm has worked well for so many years because of the great support of our members!
