Summer Share #11

A little bigger share today: collard greens, cipollini onions, romano beans, sweet pepper, cucumber and summer squash, tomatoes, golden beet, green crisp lettuce. Maturity and size on crops is all over the map right now due to the ups and downs of the weather this summer and weed pressure which has been building over the past few years. I’m still not sure what the cucumbers and summer squash will look like on Thursday, or really anything given the heat we’re about to see and the cool damp conditions today. Usually when we’re harvesting it’s not the weather on that day that determines how the crops look, but the weather in the week before and the weather has been crazy up and down so very unpredictable.

For the most part the cooler weather today made working the field a lot easier and we got quite a bit of weeding done. Most of the day was spent harvesting but some of the harvest was pre-harvest for Thursday so I’m hoping that will give us even more weeding time when it’s hot and the weeds die more easily. Thursday should also be a good day for harvesting the dry beans as we need them to be as dry as possible when we pick them. Besides weeding we also got some arugula seeded for the fall shares.

We still have a handful of fall shares available. Sign-ups have been coming in so not sure how much longer they’ll last. If you’ve already signed up expect a detailed email note later this month on picking up your first fall share. If you haven’t, head over to our website and fill out the sign up form!
