A single post this week with both the share photo (a little late!) and predictions for next week’s share. I was out of town on Monday so Sara took the photo but I’m just now getting around to posting it. In the shares this week were butter lettuce, tomatoes, summer squash, cucumbers, kale, yellow onions and French Gray shallots. We’ve been getting good feedback on the shallots and it’s nice to know that some folks are loving them as much as I do. They’re labor intensive to harvest and clean but they’re so delicious! The yellow onions this week are good keepers and another tasty allium treat. The kale is the same one we gave out a few weeks ago, so far a very vigorous variety and tasty, too.
Next week’s share will likely have red leaf lettuce, chard, cucumbers, tomatoes, and maybe more summer squash. We’ll try to dig the last of the potatoes, and maybe carrots if we have time. Sweet peppers are getting very close to being ready. Basil and eggplant look like they’ll be back on the farm stand again and ground cherries and tomatillos are ready in the you pick area.
Weeding and planting continue in the fields. We were able to irrigate a little less this week due to actual rain! With the cooler temperatures and moisture I’m seeing the first of the winter weeds germinating alongside the summer weeds. Always tricky to stay on top of the hoeing, but we’re trying.
