Should be a similar share to this past week I think. Today’s shares got Romano beans instead of the green beans and that should be the case for next week’s share too. Carrots will likely be in there, lettuce, a sweet onion or two, more summer squash and cucumbers, maybe some parsley. We’re probably done with cooking greens for the next month or so, although there’s a chance that we’ll have chard on the farm stand occasionally. Tomatoes are on their way, but they are taking their time changing color which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
It was another hot day on the farm, and even though the temperatures were a little lower the lack of breeze and higher humidity were noticeable, maybe just the accumulation of hot days, too. I’ve been spending a lot of time with the BCS trying to get beds ready for all of the fall and winter plantings that are going in over the next month or so. Weeds are the perennial priority so a lot of the non-harvest time these days is spent trying to keep them at bay so the crops can get enough sun and water.
On the weeding topic, I’ve been meaning to schedule another work party and just realized that it really needs to be this Sunday. So, a last minute invite to the farm for anyone who wants to get hands on – this Sunday, July 21 from 9 to 11AM come join me for a little farm cleaning before it gets too hot! Directions the farm are in this blog post. I’ll try to schedule another in August if there’s interest (and I can find time on the calendar).
