Looks like it’s going to be a hot weekend, right through the beginning of next week. We’re increasing the irrigations a bit, hoping to keep the greens happy a bit longer, specifically the lettuces. Chard went in last week’s share instead of the collards so they should be in this coming week’s share. Summer squash is getting going, we should have more carrots and potatoes, and maybe even some of the first fresh onions. We’re still waiting on the first green beans and cucumbers and they should be coming soon, but it might still be another week.
The weather is definitely summer weather now! As usual that means we’re starting to plant the fall crops at the same time that we’re tending, weeding and harvesting the summer crops. More chard went in the ground yesterday for the fall, and we worked on training the tomatoes, knocked back weeds, and ran around the farm making sure everything had enough water.
Photo above is of one of those chard plants going in the ground – I never managed to take one of the field. We still have a few Summer CSA shares available at a pro-rated price. Fall shares are also still available. Cloud Cap Mushrooms and Golden Age Kombucha have shares available, too!
