Summer Share Predictions, Week 1

Next week is our first Summer CSA harvests and here’s what I think we’ll have: lettuce, salad turnips, carrots, kale, fava greens, and the first pinch of basil. Of course it could be completely different once we actually start pulling roots and cutting the greens. Other strong possibilities for the near future are parsley, beets with greens, chard, and collards.

You pick raspberries and lots of culinary herbs are all ready, too. We’ll try to have a few items on the farm stand, not sure yet what those will be but the farm stand will be open during CSA pick up hours as usual, 4:30-5:45, and it’s suggested price, purchases on account, and open to anyone as always.

We still have a handful of CSA shares available for Summer, with Mondays in particular needing more sign ups! There’s still time to sign up for mushrooms from Cloud Cap Mushrooms, kombucha from Golden Age Kombucha and flowers from Flower Magic Farm, too. I’m still working on eggs and will put the word out about those as soon as I hear back.

In the field we’ve been taking advantage of this last week with no harvests to really get the weeds knocked back in the fields and to do the first training of the tomatoes up their strings. The relatively cool, wet weather has germinated a ton of weed seedlings, but it’s also allowing some of the cool loving crops like the favas to grow bigger than I’ve seen them in years! We’re excited to start harvesting again next week!
