Field Notes and Summer CSA

Less than two weeks before our summer CSA season starts and right now the prospects for our first harvest are looking good. I’ll save the share predictions until next Thursday and for now just say that it’s likely to be a nice mix of sweet and crunchy greens and roots. For any former CSA members who are familiar with the you pick section, note that the first raspberries of the season are ready now and it would actually be helpful if you swung by the farm to pick them to encourage the next round to ripen properly.

The weed pressure on the farm is once again prolific, but it’s really helping to have taken the spring off from harvest which is giving us extra time to deal with it before it becomes an even bigger problem. Thursday we were able to weed the parsnip seedlings and the second round of carrots. We also seeded more carrots and planted more lettuce for later in the summer.

If you’ve already signed up for the CSA check your email inbox for confirmation and a long, detailed email via Mailchmip with all of the details on picking up your first summer shares. If you haven’t signed up yet we still have a handful of shares that we’d really love to find members for! Please help us get the word out. And, don’t forget that there are also add on shares to sign up for from Flower Magic, Cloudcap Mushrooms and Golden Age Kombucha!
