Last Sunday’s work party was great! So many wonderful people of all ages getting so much done in just two hours of perfect working weather. All of the perennial herbs got pruned and weeded, cherry tomatoes got tied up and trellis strings are in place for the runner beans, the melons and annual herbs got hoed, and all of the bed edges were carefully hand mowed in the places we can’t reach with the BCS mower. The you pick area is looking great! Turned out that the first of the you-pick raspberries were ready, too!
We’ll try to schedule another one of these for July for folks who missed this one or who want to come back for more and see how everything is growing.
Monday we got the last of the bean trellises up, planted more lettuce, and hoed a bunch of weeds. The peas in the earlier seeded triticale and field pea cover crop was just starting to flower so that got mowed down to make way for summer plantings that will be going in later in July. All of those mowings should do a nice job of feeding the soil so that the soil can feed the late summer plantings.
Things are looking very good for the start of the summer CSA season in just under two weeks! We still have a handful of shares available with lots of payment options – including SNAP! It looks like there are still Double Up Food Bucks (DUFB) available too, so if you use SNAP to pay DUFB may cover up to half of the share cost!
