More Planting!

We’re doing a lot of planting right now. Yesterday the pole beans and dry beans all got planted, and we also had time to do some hoeing while things were still dry. All of the plants are surely enjoying the rain, but probably not the chilly temperatures. The weeds will be taking advantage of both so we’ll have our work cut out for us in the weeks to come.

It was great to see farm founder and CSA member extraordinaire Matt back out in the field, doing a little BCS work for me since I can’t really run the tractor with my injuries. At this point in the season any tractor work (other than mowing) is a bit of bonus. A lot of the bed preparation we’re doing is with the wheel hoe and rakes, which I find more effective in knocking back the weeds pre-planting.

Fingers crossed that the weather warms up and dries out soon. I’ve been holding back on planting some of the heat loving summer crops but they can only hang out in the green house for so long.

Summer CSA sign ups have slowed to a trickle but we still have a few shares available. Our summer season starts at the end of June so we still have a month to go until the first harvests. Sign up now if haven’t yet and let your friends know too!
