Lettuce, collards, tomatoes, sweet peppers, celery, onions. We might still have a little cucumber and summer squash for the farm stand, and we’ve had a few cantaloupe there as well, recently. Thursday got collards last week so we’ll have a different green this Thursday, probably chard. The you-pick area still has lots of cherry tomatoes, and ground cherries and tomatillos are starting to be ripe. As always there are lots of herbs in there, too, and a few flowers for cutting. If you want a better selection of cut flowers, including dahlias, Hoverfly Flower Farm has been offering you-pick passes to their dahlias and great selection of other blooms and instructions for that are next to the pick-up area.
Last Thursday was a busy planting day. We got the last of the escarole, frisée, mustard and arugula in the ground, and covered the brassicas to protect them from insect pests – as well as the larger pests who have been doing somewhat serious damage to many of the leaves on the kale and some of the other crops (probably rabbits). The weather right now is looking conducive to both crop growth and getting field work done. We’ll be busy continuing to hold the weeds back in the new crops and cleaning up the summer crops that finished now before fall comes.
Speaking of fall, we have two more weeks of summer before fall is here! It looks like we still have 7 more shares available for the B schedule distributions and the A schedule is sold out so if you haven’t signed up yet and you want a share now’s the time to do it.
