Eleventh Summer CSA Share

Two heads of lettuce, tomatoes, chard, shallots, sweet pepper, parsley. Not shown is choice of summer squash or cucumber. Two of the new (to us) varieties of lettuce we’ve been growing this year are relatively quick to bolt and these two looked like they both needed to be harvested today so a head of Blush Butter Oak and one of Kweik – Thursday will get something different. Thursday will also probably see collards instead of chard, but that’s still to be determined. Tomatoes slowed down with the cool weather, but the peppers actually look like they’re starting to ripen so fingers crossed that we’ll have more of those soon.

We’re still making slow progress knocking back the prolific weeds in the fall crops and at the same time trying to get beds ready for the final plantings of the year. So far the weather forecast for the next 10 days looks conducive to getting things done – that rain was good, but now we could use a good stretch of dry, warm weather to get some planting done, get on top of the weeds, and get the dry beans, corn and winter squash out of the field.
