10th Summer Share Prediction

Tomatoes, kale, lettuce, beets, basil, celery, onions, summer squash and cucumbers. As always, it’s super hard to actually know what things will look like on Monday when we get out to harvest but based on what I saw in the field on Friday and the plans made last fall it looks like the next round of beets is at least ready to be thinned, and we may get some decent sized ones in there. Celery is kind of in that same boat, sizing up very slowly, but we’ll clean up the plants and put a little in the share to flavor your summer salads. We’ll have more onions, probably the flat, yellow types this time, my favorites for flavor. Sadly the cucumbers and summer squash seem to be petering out early this year, and the sweet peppers are coming in late so that’s creating an extra hole in the shares but we’ll fill in as best we can. Romano beans may taking a break, but we should have at least small heads of lettuce back in the shares. Kale will show up Monday, and we’ll look for a different bunch green on Thursday to fill out the shares since we gave out kale in yesterday’s shares.

We didn’t have a ton of time for field work this past week as there’s a fire hose of little details on how we do harvest and distribution hitting the new crew, but we did manage to get some weeding done, as well as a round of escarole and salad turnips planted for fall shares. We’ll continue to chip away at the final fall seedings and cleaning up all of the weeds accumulated this summer!
