8th Summer Share Prediction

Tomatoes, summer squash, cucumbers, romano beans, basil, lettuce, potatoes. Looks like we might actually get our annual heat wave next week and that could throw a spanner in the works. Looking at the details of the weather we should be able to get harvest out early enough to keep it and the crew cool. Our lettuce situation at the moment isn’t great and we’ll probably have a lull coming up soon in that department, it’s also possible that the heat will impact what we do have in the field. Carrots are the other crop that’s not been doing well this year and we’ll have a few on the farm stand Monday, but don’t expect any in the shares any time soon.

After getting all of the plantings in on Monday, yesterday we were able to focus on knocking back the prolific weeds and covering some of the fall brassicas with insect netting to protect them not just from the insects, but hopefully from the bunnies, too! Weeds had buried the onion crop, but those are largely uncovered now and we should be harvesting them over the next few weeks. The next big task will be getting the weeds out of the fall and winter leeks!
