7th Summer Share Predictions

A little late with the predictions this week, but better than last week where I completely forgot to post them (sorry about that). The usual cucumbers, summer squash and lettuce mix should be in the shares and more tomatoes are on their way. We’re still hoping the romano beans will catch up, but not sure when that’ll be. We’ll likely continue pulling more onions from the field. This weeks share is particular hard to predict as both carrots and potatoes are possibilities but it’s hard to say on either of them how yields will be as they don’t look great from up top, but we never know what we’ll get when we start digging.

It’s a very busy time of year on the farm. This is the biggest planting push for fall crops. All of the fall lettuces when in the ground on Thursday, as well as kohlrabi. Roots and greens need to be seeded and we’re trying to get all of remaining beets and radicchio in the ground this coming week too! With the warm weather the weeds have been having a heyday (or is it hay day – we could certainly be making hay right now with all the grasses) and we’re slowly digging out from getting behind there, as well as trying to stay on top of the weeds in the newer plantings.

When you come to pick up there are several exciting items in the you pick area. Cherry tomatoes are ripening nicely, and it looks like the first padron peppers are ready, too (somewhat hidden in the weeds). There’s flowering dill and cilantro, and I think this is the first year we’ve had shiso and anise hyssop so if you’re interested in any of those ask Tiiu and she’ll point them out.
